>All the more reason to avoid OPNQRYF. There is no ease of maintenance. Depends on the code. I once wrote a generator for query preselection; the generated program created an optimized QRYSLT-string, e.g. when From and To were equal it used Field=Value and so on. Only few people had to explore the very depths of OPNQRYF, the rest was happy to code just the selection and sort criterias. >Instead use SQL. People who stick with OPNQRYF belong to one of few >categories. >1) Work for cheap company which refuses to buy SQL. We have bought it; still prefer OPNQRYF. Embedded SQL did more trouble in the past than OPNQRYF. There were more PTF's to apply, and recompile was often necessary afterwards. >2) Create vendor software with mandate not to force customers to purchase >SQL. (When they've already had to purchase 400, rpg compiler, etc.) Yep, that's on of the better reasons. And: our customers do not need to buy a RPG compiler, too. >3) Have no s*e*x life and last conquest was figuring out OPNQRYF. Figuring out how OPNQRYF works had absolutely no effect on my sex life. To avoid comments: i'm quite happy with it! (With both - OPNQRYF and my sex life ;-) >4) Love to use primary files and can do that if they use OPNQRYF instead >of SQL. Yep, i love them for reports. <big snip> But - SQL is cool, too! :-) Mit freundlichen Grüssen / best regards Anton Gombkötö e-mail Office : mailto:Anton.Gombkoetoe@avenum.com Homepage : http://www.avenum.com ---------- Avenum Technologie GmbH Brigittenauer Lände 50-54, Stiege 6 Salzburger Strasse 29 Dreifelder Strasse 4 A-1200 Wien / Austria A-5163 Mattsee D-70599 Stuttgart Tel./phone : +43-1/92101-148 +43-6217/5995 - 0 +49-711/4411 116 Fax : +43-1/92101-300 +43-6217/5995 - 13 +49-711/4411 563 ---------- Avenum ist der Zusammenschluss von AS Software und Black System. ---------- +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
