Hi Sean I'm fairly new here myself - it's good to *see a familiar face* from the linux5250 list :-) You can do this in RPG III by defining the 801 length for the data structure itself, rather than on a subfield. Then define each of the subfields below. As long as each 'field' in your format is 256 or less you should be okay. You might want to look at externally defined data structures, with an E in front of the DS, and the external file they map to after the DS. It doesn't have to be the same file you're writing to, just as long as it has the structure you want. RPG IV handles much bigger fields, so will cope with your original layout.
