When you say that you want to convert a string to its hex value, do you mean: x'F1F2F3' becomes 123 or 15856371? Also, I've rarely encountered a business reason to do the math in hex. I usually convert to decimal (15856371) and then work with it that way. If I need to print it out, I'll convert it into character form: x'C6F1C6F2C6F3' to print a legible "dump."
