X'F1F2F3' = 15856371 Thank you all for your input. I'll find the book mentioned above online. The purpose of this was to prepare input data for some program. I did this in Perl already (I hoped RPG just has some instruction to do this which I did not know - I'll try to find some information about using C functions in RPG). I wrote only one easy RPG program so far - changing a spool file to postscript for beautiful printing, and I just would like to keep learning RPG. For the moment the problem is solved, but I'll try to write such a procedure in future. Thanks again David ---------------------------------------------------------- ... I'm not certain I understand your question properly. When you say that you want to convert a string to its hex value, do you mean: x'F1F2F3' becomes 123 or 15856371? ... +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
