IMHO I would take it one step further "if" at all possible; your last example is the best; however; see "if" you can even eliminate the *IN99; IE if it is used for file i/o validation, use the %found, %eof and the like - if *in99 is on because of a value, say the old statement was a comp 12 99; then try if a = 12 eval isvalueofa12 = 'Y' endif depending on your application, ILE has really opened the door to self documented code; be creative, be logical, experiment, but most of all; have fun learning just how far you can push yourself. I am trying to use all Evals in my programming just because it is much easier to read and understand. My question is, however, should I be converting Z-ADDs to Evals? I understand we use(d) Z-ADD instead of MOVE because Z-ADD was more effiecient. We could of used MOVE, but we used Z-ADD. Now, if I have a statement (and I do): C 99 Z-ADD *ZERO EQSIZE and I want to convert this to "modern" programming, should it become: C If *IN99 C Z-Add *Zero EqSize C EndIf or should it become: C If *IN99 C Eval EqSize = *Zero C EndIf Any comments on this are appreciated.
