We have a file that is constrained by itself.

The file is laid out as:

Field1
Field2
Field3
Field4 ...

The constraint is:

Field1 and Field4 are constrained by Field1 and Field2.
Basically before adding a record the value in Field4 must already be in
Field2 is some other record.

Here is the delimma.
Through Microsoft Access we can add a record where Field1 = '1' and Field2
= 'Division' and Field4 has nothing in it.
When trying to add the same record in an RPG program the constraint
disallows the insert.

Our assumption is that Microsoft Access is putting a null value in Field4
which is bypassing the constraint and the RPG program is putting a value of
*blank in the field which the constraint recognizes and disallows.

If this is the case how do we get RPG to leave a null value in the field,
otherwise we are open to suggestions.

TIA,
