     the basics:

A user space is an object made up of a collection of bytes used for
storing any user defined data. There is no key, it is stored in the
order it is entered. Max storage is 16 meg of info. APIs are used to
create, manipulate & delete the user spaces.

Advantages: 1) speed (because it is bytes rather than elements, it is
     much faster than arrays)
                2) flexibility (it does not have a fixed record length.
when you write to the user space, you define the length of the rec.
thus, each rec can be a different size. its size can be increased
     dynamically.)
                3) user space created by one program can be used by
     another.

user space is the area of system resources that is allocated to user
applications, storage, commands, etc. This is in contrast to kernel space
which is the area of system resources that the kernel uses for its
work. Of course this is how it is defined in UNIX-land, maybe the poster
meant something else?
