Hi ,
MBDSSZ (the data size in bytes) = Allocated size including actual data
size.
My interest is to find the actual data size.

Try this:
DSPFD FILE(yourfile) TYPE(*MBR) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) FILEATR(*PF)
OUTFILE(yourlib/ofile)

NOTE: ofile is the name of the outfile you are creating, it will hold the
file
details generated from DSPFD.
after running the command, do a query or SQL over the outfile, in this
example
ofiler, for fields MBDSSZ (the data size in bytes) and/or MBISIZ (index
size in
bytes). The outfile created will mirror the record format structure of
QWHFDMBR
- see any CL reference for the DSPFD command and how it is used with
OUTFILES.
This is something that can be easily automated within a CL. Changing the
TYPE
parameter will give different information in a different format - just
prompt
it.

Enjoy

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your reply. We are interested in finding out data size in
Bytes.
I am doing following steps:
Do DSPFD on file: Get Record size and number of records . Now total data
size = Record Size * Number of Records.

You can do a DSPFM, with the exact file member. This will show the exact
number of records by doing to the bottom of the file. You can also use
wrkqry to do a record count.
