No. What Chris was describing is a technique used to update a record in a file for which you may find duplicate keys. When loading a subfile from such a file that is used to allow the user to modify the record, you need to store the data file's RRN in the subfile record. If the user makes a change to the record, your program recognizes that a change was made, and it uses the RRN to chain out to the physical file to udpate the record. Note that the data file's RRN is found in the file's information data structure (INFDS). Also note that in RPG-IV, the RRN is always correct, regardless of any blocking factors. This is not necessarily true for RPG-III.
