I presume that your phone number is an alpha-numeric field.
The normal way is to do something like the foillowing (assuming {file} is
keyed by phone number):
C* create start end versions of search
C MOVE {input} START
C* (assumes no imbedded blanks in input field)
C ' ':'9' XLATE{input} END
C START SETLL{file}
C READ {file} 80
C N80 {filephne}COMP END 80
C N80 *IN80 DOWEQ*OFF
C* code in here
C READ {file} 80
C N80 {filephne}COMP END 80
C ENDDO
I'm sure there will be other (better) solutions !
Mike
P.S. pls no DOW/DOU debates !!
