Look at your question. 'they need RPG to print the reports they want'.
Therefore, who cares what the current code looks like? They are starting
from scratch, Nirvana. Of course they miss the opportunity to learn from
others this way. Do RPGIV. Be really sneaky, don't show them subroutines
- show them only subprocedures. A significant portion of the time I'll
find that moving the subprocedure to a service program is the next step
in evolution.

Subject: Learning RPG

What is the best way for two people to learn RPG? They taught themselves
Query and are pretty good with SQL but they need RPG to print the reports
they want. They each already have work to do, so they will be learning it
during the nooks and crannies.

The first question is: RPG or RPGIV? Their software is mostly RPG.

Should they learn internal or external printer files?

Any comments or recommendations for self-teach materials would be
appreciated.
