Look at your question. 'they need RPG to print the reports they want'. Therefore, who cares what the current code looks like? They are starting from scratch, Nirvana. Of course they miss the opportunity to learn from others this way. Do RPGIV. Be really sneaky, don't show them subroutines - show them only subprocedures. A significant portion of the time I'll find that moving the subprocedure to a service program is the next step in evolution. boothm@earth.Goddard.edu on 04/01/2000 01:09:10 PM Please respond to RPG400-L@midrange.com@Internet To: rpg400-l@midrange.com@Internet cc: Fax to: Subject: Learning RPG What is the best way for two people to learn RPG? They taught themselves Query and are pretty good with SQL but they need RPG to print the reports they want. They each already have work to do, so they will be learning it during the nooks and crannies. The first question is: RPG or RPGIV? Their software is mostly RPG. Should they learn internal or external printer files? Any comments or recommendations for self-teach materials would be appreciated. _______________________ Booth Martin boothm@earth.goddard.edu http://www.spy.net/~booth _______________________ +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
