I taught myself RPG/400 from Judith Yaeger's "Programming in RPG/400". The book seems to cover all of the bases and there is a chapter on RPGII for comparison to the language now. There is also a chapter on RPGIV to show how the language has and is progressing. Either this book or the instructor's manual comes with a floppy containing the DDS and Data to write the programs at the end of each chapter. As far as internal vs external printer the book starts out with internal O-specs and by chapter 5 it has progressed to externally described files. I had to learn around my daily responsibilities as well and I found that the longest it took to get through a chapter was a week and a half to two weeks. They taught themselves Query and are pretty good with SQL but they need RPG to print the reports they want. They each already have work to do, so they will be learning it during the nooks and crannies. The first question is: RPG or RPGIV? Their software is mostly RPG. Should they learn internal or external printer files? Any comments or recommendations for self-teach materials would be appreciated. _______________________ Booth Martin boothm@earth.goddard.edu http://www.spy.net/~booth _______________________ +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
