Eric, One thing that impressed me with the JDEdwards software was the level break subroutine they had to handle whatever came through the DreamWriter (name?). I think I understood exactly how the subroutine worked for about five minutes (fleeting enlightenment). But, boy, that was one piece of flexible code! - Dan Bale -----Original Message----- From: Lehti, Eric [mailto:eric.lehti@fike.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 29, 2000 5:26 PM To: 'RPG400-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: RPG Cycle Good point (below), Jaydeep. The RPG cycle has all the steps a report program needs for Level breaks, Total time processing etc. Otherwise, one must code those steps manually. Software vendors (JD Edwards, Lawson, Software 2000 etc) usually (but not always ) manually code level breaks and total time processing for report programs. But JD Edwards does have some report programs written Input Primary, to take advantage of the RPG cycle. These programs are much shorter in length than other programs. Eric Lehti (JD Edwards all the way!) -----Original Message----- From: jsingh@cgsinc.com [mailto:jsingh@cgsinc.com] It helps a lot in case of Level Breaks, Matching records. Operating system itself is taking care of lot of things. At the same time without RPG CYCLE, you have to write your own logic to do the same thing, which is not always good. you can avoid lot of extra codings. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
