The general method used at my current customers is to keep any modifications
in separate libraries that come first in the library list. If a vendor bug
is suspected, simply remove the modification libraries and try it with the
vanilla vendor code - if it still fails at the same point, it's a vendor
problem.

BTW, that's the vendor's recommended strategy.
