I think you mis-understand the development model; many hands make the load lighter or according to ERS "many eyeballs" make the load lighter. There are two kinds of people involved in open source, those who contribute and those who reap the rewards. Both have a place and are required in order for any open source project to work. There are many different ways to contribute, project description, testing, authoring, document maintenance, site maintenance and the list goes on and on. Those of us who have a few minutes give a few minutes, those with a few spare hours give those few spare hours. You can debate about why open source won't work or you can make it work. The unarguable, potential benefits far out weigh any minor difficulty encountered in achieving that goal. > a) have access to an as/400 at home > b)if they could do some on their employers systems, would have the time > c) most employment contracts for development staff state that all > development work performed on company equipment and time belongs to the > company > d)aside from anything else, how many man years do you think have gone > into a system like JDE to get it where it is today! -- L.
