Code/400 was downloadable off the web. It is a huge download but if you
are on campus you aren't dealing with modem limitations. Code/400 will
install on your PC and has an editor that is way way ahead of Notepad. Not
only that, it includes full help, all reference manuals you'll want, and
all the program formats (CL,CLP, DSPF,PF,LF,RPG,RPGIV, and more.) It'll
verify code so you can be assured of a compile, and once your AS/400 is up
it'll give you like 200 free connects to the AS/400. The error checking is
a blessing, especially when you are learning because it pinpoints all the
errors and their locations.

Subject: Writing Programs on a PC

Hello! I'm a student trying to work on some homework problems during the
Christmas break. The only problem is that the AS400 at the school is DOWN
and no one is there to bring it back up.

I've used MS Word to create the various F, I, D, C, and O rulers but
programming using Word isn't exactly easy and obviously gives me no
context sensitive help. Is there a free or very cheap program that will
help me write the source code on a PC so that I can be a bit ahead of the
game when the AS400 comes back up?

Thanks in advance! Bob Foster bfoster@bendcable.com
