You should be able to return a value with a subprocedure. This
support began in V3R2, so you should be able to do it at your
version.

Or isn't that what you mean?

example:

     D do_add PR 10I 0
     D parm1 10I 0 value
     D parm2 10I 0 value

     D Result S 7P 0

     C eval Result = do_add(25: 31)
     c dsply Result
     c eval *inlr = *on

     P do_add B
     D do_add PI 10I 0
     D parm1 10I 0 value
     D parm2 10I 0 value
     C return (parm1 + parm2)
     P E
