Bruce,

<you are embarking on a major "learning experience">

Your euphenisms (sp?) crack me up.

Since I have not been in that area of responsibility lately, I'm curious that
you seem to be implying that the restore will not go smoothly. Why is that?

Also, what is the "slip" vs. "scratch" option?

Next, you want the attention light. Under normal circumstances, in earlier
releases than V4R2, the attention light comes on after the machine has
completed the IPL from the tape (D). Now you have to decide on a scratch or
slip. Slip is 23, scratch is 24. Dial it in, push the button. The machine
should now load the system from the tape. This is assuming that the
attention code in the display is A600 something.

The full process is too much to go into here, but I am assuming that you
have never done this process before. I hope that the machine is not intended
for production, because you are embarking on a major "learning experience".
