Sorry Bruce, but THIS is wrong, and Jim is right. *HIVAL and *LOVAL ARE type dependent, and are always valid values for the type. E.g. *LOVAL for packed(5,0), zoned(5,0), integer(5,0) are respectively -99999, -99999, and -32768 (x'99999d', x'f9f9f9f9d9' and x'8000').
