How is the name information stored? Are there rules you can depend on if the name is in one field? *hival or *loval would apply if you were searching a sorted array and wanted to stop the search when there was no more data in the array. Works sort of like this. Specify the array as ascending. Initialize your array to *hival. Load the array with name information (presuming it is possible to identify the last name.) Sort the array. When you use lookup (or lokup) specify both the equal indicator and the high indicator. This will guarantee that the search will stop before the end of the array when there are fewer names than array cells. > -----Original Message----- > From: Phil & Vera Hayes [mailto:PHayes1@Prodigy.net] > Sent: Monday, November 08, 1999 5:52 AM > To: RPG400-L@midrange.com > Subject: How do you use *HIVAL and *LOVAL????? > > > Hello, > My Next assignment requires a generic search for customer's Last Name. > > Would I use *HIVAL and *LOVAL, and it so, how do I incorporate it? > > I have learned much from all of you in this form, and your > help would be > greatly appreciated. > Thank You > Phil > +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
