Ron, Now, I'm not picking on you, it's just your post in this thread that I hit the "reply" button on ... IMHO, the choice of arrays, MODS, disk files, etc. falls into two camps. Memory centric (arrays .. PC) or single level storage (OS/400). BTW, my PC has more memory than most of my clients AS/400. =:-o Under memory management, user space, arrays, MODS that are memory centric may wind up on disk as memory gets swapped. But then again disk centric processing could be in memory as a function of cache. Go figure. It depends. There is no single answer. I don't know if I would call this a "big shortcoming" of RPG. IMO, that's sort of like a demolition person choosing a tack hammer over all the choices offered then faulting the hammer for being inappropriate to the task at hand. > > This is a big shortcoming of RPG in my opion. There's really no reason that >we have to define the number of elements in an array. The compiler should just >extend it when it needs to. Would make life a lot simpler. > Ron > +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
