I did at least once at a previous job.  I needed to insert and delete
records or something in a subfile used on the screen.  I copied it to
another subfile and back.

With much higher limits on arrays in RPG IV, most functions can be
handled with arrays and/or MODSs, but there may still be situations
where using a subfile in place of an array, MODS, or work file is
a reasonable way to go.
