I've been giving some thought to the use of a subfile instead of a MODS and could only think of one benefit: If any of the fields are already used in a different data structure you have to change the names of the fields and populate your MODS with MOVE's. Reading/writing to a record does this for you. With that consideration, IMO, the closest subfile simulation would be through a disk file. It would also work in a batch program. You would WRITE to add a record, CHAIN by record number, can use UPDAT, could call a CLRPFM to simulate SFLCLR, initialize the record and perform a looping write to simulate SFLINZ. +--- | This is the RPG/400 Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to RPG400-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to RPG400-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to RPG400-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
