Scott,

I don't think you're a bad guy at all and I accept that your correction was
not intended as a flame. I think the reason 3 people homed in on that line
is that midrange.com is virtually free of spelling and grammar flames,
indeed flames of any kind, and most of us, I'm sure, are happy with that
state of affairs. Therefore any step in that direction, no matter how small
or inadvertent, is likely to attract a hostile response.

As to the question of drafting a standard reply to an FAQ, I think it's a
good idea and the rest of your contribution was excellent. I agree that a
standard answer should be meticulously accurate, including the grammar and
spelling. However, I don't think the latter errors should be tackled in open
forum except where they significantly affect the meaning, for example using
CICS in place of CISC.

David,

Buck was drafting a "standard reply" to people who asked about
the different methods of binding, and I figured as long as I was
giving my comments on what I think he should add to his reply,
I'd add a little note about the "have" to "has" thing...

I thought it was a simple mistake, one which I probably make every
day, and it didnt even OCCUR to me that this might be a difference
in the way English is spoken in various areas of the world.

It most *CERTAINLY* was not a flame. I'm a little astounded that
anyone could see it as a flame... It was less than a line of text
that contained to insults or ridicules.

And I'm a bit annoyed that of the ENTIRE LONG POST I made with ideas
about the "standard reply" Buck was drafting, 3 people have picked
the whole message apart to quote back THAT ONE LITTLE LINE. I guess
that the discussion about how to draft a standard reply regarding
ILE programming isn't as important on this list as me DARING to
say something about what I perceived as a typo.

Why am I always the bad guy?
