You are (of course!) right.  When I said "not ILE" I was thinking of 
binding to external modules.  The original question was about not having a 
C compiler to create the service program that the RPG example binds to. My 
intent was to show a fairly plain Jane (apologies to Jane!) code example 
that showed how to convert the C structures to RPG IV.  I should have been 
more precise. 

As long as you're on this thread :-) may I ask about error handling in the 
mixed environment (AG QILE vs AG *DFTACTGRP)  I am calling this QILE pgm 
from an OPM CL program.  I'm not going to get any nasty surprises, am I?  I 
remember jumping in to ILE in the first release, and it was pretty ugly to 
mix named and default AG pgms, but it may have been my inexperience 
(imagine THAT!)
