Call it a case of mixing metaphors - "daily driver" is directly related to cars, as one that is older, maybe, that you use all the time except for special occasions when the Bentley comes out of the garage.

It took me a while to stretch the metaphor to a more general application of a beater anything that you can bang around with no fear.

Correct, I have not heard this expression before.  Can you explain?

So on Saturday I picked up a used Macbook pro. Over the years I've toyed
around with the idea of using a Mac, but the cost was just way too high.
Then, I found a local place that sells used stuff, so I got a Macbook for
about half the cost of new.

So I was just curious if anyone else is using a Mac for their daily driver,
and what did you think of it?

So far I have everything I want setup on it and it seems to be working
well.
