Depends on the hosting provider.

Google domains provides that capability ... as does name.com (the two I've worked with).

If you want to create a short name, and don't care if the name is meaningful, you can use bit.ly.

Bitly also provides whitelabel services if you have your own short domain (like my urlq.me or ibm.co).
