I'm assuming that you are considering a PC vs. a Mac. My advice is to
window shop in retail stores and then buy online. I like to shop at
Newegg.com. Get an idea of what the screen size looks like, how much they
weigh, how the screen looks, how the keyboard feels, etc. I've been happy
with the Dell Latitude D830 that I bought in 2007. We are rolling out new
Dell Latitudes at work which seem to be working well. I'll be getting one
myself next month. I've also been happy with my Toshiba netbook that I
bought last year. I've been looking at laptops for a family purchase and
am leaning toward Toshiba based on price, performance, features, and
look/feel. A lot of the newer models have a numeric keypad which adds to
the bulk. I'm leaning toward the 15.6 inch screen size.
A fast processor, more memory, and a large hard drive are always good to
have.

All,
My youngest son will graduate next spring with a degree in Informatics.
When asked what he would like for Christmas and graduation, he replied he
wants a new laptop to replace his 4-year-old Dell.
I haven't followed laptops recently. What do some of you who have made
fairly recent purchases recommend?
Thanks.
