The V7 client will connect to any version of OS, although only the 
functions that are supported by that OS level will work.  I connect to a 
V5R2  and V5R3 system all the time with no issues.

It is the 64bit that clobbered it.  Use the 64bit version of IBM i 
Access and you'll be good to go.

BTW:  do not forget to install the fix package.  You will be 
disappointed if you don't.
