If you are going Windows, .NET is your best choice. Typically, on the
Windows platform (from my experience) is .NET development. You have
VB.NET which I have heard is easier to learn. The syntax is more
RPG-like. <plug>You can get help on .NET on the System i .NET list
(http://murl.me/idotnet)</plug>. The focus there is using .NET with
your i, but in the end, you can ask just about anything .NET related.

Otherwise, you have PHP. I have heard PHP is similar to net.data. PHP
can hook up to Sql Server, but typically, most projects use MySQL.

You are never too old to learn something new.
