I too have a pair of older powerline networking adapters that pre-dates the
AV moniker. I was hoping to get better speeds between two buildings on my
property. I never got above 70Mbps either, so in the end I ran fiber optic
between the buildings with gigabit media converters on each end. So now I
have full gigabit speeds between the buildings.
One thing to try: put both adapters on the same outlet and retest your
speed. IIRC, there is a speed hit if the adapters are on opposite legs of
the power supply. If speeds are significantly better when on the same
outlet, then check if the outlets where you intend to use them are on the
same "leg". If not, shift the connections in your circuit breaker panel to
get them on the same leg. This is not to say they should necessarily be on
the same side in the breaker panel. Adjacent breakers are on opposite
legs. So if on the same side of the panel, you want them an even number of
slots away from each other. Breakers directly across from each other are on
opposite legs, so if on the opposite side of the panel you want them an odd
number of slots away.
