What happens when you try the camera? In my experience I can just get
the latest drivers from the device and it gives me the chance to load
drivers. 100% of the time it tells me they are already the best
choice.


The typical drivers won't hose you - is this an off brand?
XP Pro should not do this but my next step is a complete power off and
then try the camera before anymore activity.
There should be a log file/action taken in /temp you can dig through
to find registry changes. Is some other driver or utility blocking the
change? are you admin?
The only time I have seen this is when the MS drivers were considered
better than the CD.
I have only done this a few times with a few cameras and it is a flaky
process to say the least to begine with. If the camera works, I am
done.
