Bob/Booth, It is common for laptops to have Bluetooth...but I've not seen a lot of
desktops that do.
But Bluetooth dongles (via USB) are fairly cheap, and work on desktops or laptops with no internal BT. AFAIK, they all need drivers to be installed; you can't just plug one in like a thumbdrive and have it autoconfigured.
With a Treo anyway, you can use a USB cable between the Cell Phone and PC. It is also faster than Bluetooth.
Only because of the stupid implementation of BT under Palm OS. It is done as a layer under their serial port manager library, which for some reason can't handle port speeds over 128kbps or so. I've never been able to get BT throughput past around 118kbps on any Palm OS device, even when using BT access points capable of 800kbps or more. I haven't tried with a Treo 700p or 680, but I suspect the same limitation still exists. It is convienent; just relatively slow IMHO. Doug
