Did you know that on the desktop properties "settings" panel, you can also drag the box with a 2 to the left side of the #1 box and it will switch everything around. I use dual monitor on my desktop with the secondary on the right. But sometimes, instead of a monitor, it is actually a projector. But when it is a projector, then the secondary is on the left....talk about confusing! Move mouse to the left to "go right"! Sorry, cant help at all with your laptop issues. In the old days however, there was a hotkey sequence to "activate" the secondary device (usually a projector in my case). But things have probably changed since then. Bob

Usually, after I've used my undocked laptop and dock it again, I have to go to the same Settings dialog John pointed you to and click on the '2' box and check "Extend..." I use the external monitor as my primary, since it is larger, and the laptop sits to the right. Sometimes, when I redock, it wants to assume that the external sits to the right of the laptop, which gets messy when moving the mouse between the two monitors. In that case, I have to click on the Advanced button in the same dialog to make the switch. The Advanced dialog's appearance seems heavily dependent upon the video driver, so what I see is probably not what you'll see on yours, but you may still see some options that fix your problem.
