Sounds like the password should be blank if you never set one up. I would try logging in with a blank password, but I assume you already tried that. I think you should be able to boot into safe mode then go into the control panel and set up user accounts or disable the welcome screen. Maybe even change the admin password. I would try all that before messing with the registry. I like this group because when people post questions I usually go see if I can figure out an answer and I always learn something I didn't know. Apparently CTL-ALT-DEL twice (at the Welcome Screen) will bring up a different login. Maybe you can try logging in as administrator that way.
