Jon, I've used 2 tools.1. A free one from Microsoft - RegClean - last version was 4.1 or something, 1998. I still use it occasionally on my Win 2K machine. It makes .dat files of what it changed, so that you can restore things.
2. RegCleaner at www.jv16.org - mine is older, the power tools 2005 probably are closest to what I have. $30

Anyone got any experience with good registry clean-up tools? I ran the Free Registry Fix tool that PC Mag have on their download site. Trouble is while it reported hundreds (literally) of errors on the 6 month old machine, it has a number of problems. - This free version only fixes 50 items. - It doesn't tell you which 50 - It doesn't back up the registry before it starts (every other fixer I've ever used does that - or at least suggests you do so - so it didn't occur to me!) - It doesn't tell you what is wrong - so it is tough to tell whether the report is genuine or not Given the above I'm very reluctant to hand over the dollars for the full version. Any suggestions?
