I just tried something that I should have done before I sent the last post.

I created a link to an Excel spreadsheet, and linked it to an existing
Access table.  This is not an ODBC link, but just choosing the .xls file
from the Link dialog box.  This *replaces* the table, and creates a new
table with column names F1, F2, F3, etc.  I think we need to retain the
original column names.  This is being used display selected data on a web
page.
