I have seen this on a few new computers (one Compaq and one HP, same
company!). What they do is include a demo version of MS Office that works
for a few months, to get you hooked, and then it asks you to buy the full
version. There is usually a sticker on the bag of documentation that states
that MS Office is only a demo version and will expire. There is also
usually a "working" version of MS Works for people who don't want or need to
buy the full version of office.

Subject: [PCTECH] Microsoft Office & XP Home

Hi Folks,

I had a user come to me (one of our Sales folks) and tell me an interesting
story.

He bought a Compaq/HP computer 6 months ago and it came with Windows XP Home
and MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc.) and he had been using
them up until a few weeks ago when he started getting a box/boxes popping up
telling him he needed to register and giving him a price...

Any of you aware of anything like this ?

Thanks !

Chuck
