Along the lines of "Is it plugged in?", open the box and look at the CPU fan - have you been hearing some noise lately?

More recent motherboards ship some utilities that report temperatures and fan speeds, etc. You might see whether you have any of that. I've not searched for 3rd party stuff like that. It often depends on the BIOS and connections to the motherboard.

Sometimes you can see extra information when you look at BIOS setup. Do whatever you need to do to get into the setup, then look around.

I'm wondering if maybe the system is overheating but I don't know how to check that out. The system is an AMD 1700 CPU on an ECS K7S53 system board. Can anyone help with how to determine if the system is overheating? Any other suggestions would be welcome also.
