Hi Joel -
I think Ken wins the current "Geekoff"... congratulations! I did forget
to mention the wireless network in my house and the five computers, but
they just can't compare!
I guess I should mention that I don't need a wireless network because I
have a dedicated computer room in my apartment! That should make up for
the fact that I only have three computers (personal use, firewall, and
server). I also have a printer, cable modem, dialup modem (hooked to the
personal use PC), two 1500VA UPSes, and various kinds of telephone
equipment. Now that the server is in-house I'll be buying a third UPS.
I'm investigating backup broadband connectivity. I'm out in the boonies
and Sprint's website says DSL is not available, though it might be possible
to get 128/128 if I were to talk to someone techie. There are various
wireless services available.
Which reminds me of another point to add to my geekhoodness: I've purchased
a package of bundled services from Security Space, which includes network
monitoring that checks my connectivity and also makes sure that both my
webserver and mail server are up and running. This package also runs a
security audit against my systems once a month and allows me unlimited
website analysis (checks for internal broken links, missing images, etc.).
All this for non-income-producing personal use.
