The piece about fetching fields by name is good to know. So far 99% of my work has been the other way so I haven't run into that. I'm readying spreadsheets or csv files and massaging the data and inserting into the IBM i.

Please do not update pip that way. Since it was installed via yum, if will
cause the database to get out of sync with what it thinks is installed vs
what is installed.

As far as fetching fields by name, that is not supported by the
ibm_db_dbi, but can be done with a wrapper:
