Thanks for your reply.

For my code, I could use COLUMN_HEADING out of syscolumns, and in fact it
was my intention to do that as a workaround, instead of accessing the
cur.description list, but then I realised that I'm also using the other
details (column types) from the cur.description list.

This is a solvable problem, I could access the column type info from
somewhere else, but at the moment it's not a critical issue for me and so
I'd rather wait and see if the fix can be done in ibm_db_dbi.
