Admittedly, the documentation should be more clear, at
https://bitbucket.org/ibmi/opensource/src/master/docs/yum/.

Two things I'd like to add to this thread:

1) 5733-OPS is NOT required to install the RPM's or the "bootstrap".

2) regarding the roadmap for 5733-OPS, one might note this question in the
RPM FAQ: Will 5733-OPS be updated to ship Node.js version 8, Python 3.6,
or other goodies that are currently in RPM form only?
The answer is "There are currently no plans to deliver these packages in
the 5733-OPS installable product. "
Upon inspecting the support roadmaps for the currently-delivered Node.js
version 6, Python 3.4, and Python 2.7, one could make an educated guess
regarding the lifespan of 5733-OPS

Yes you still need 5733ops however I think IBMs direction would be

towards

the RPM packaging as opposed to the OPS LPP. It's much easier for them

to

deploy things via RPM than with a LPP.

At POWERUp18 week after next we can get the direction guidelines from

Jessie

Gorzinski who now manages those products for IBM. It's my impression

given

comments from the WMCPA conference and others that the RPM route is the
current favorite.

Most of the information you just dug up is fairly new, I think posted
originally in early March.
