Opportunity for a teaching moment.....

What is missing from your post, which is helpful information, is how to solve the problem. I do understand that there are dependencies and I do know how to list those dependencies, what the documentation on the YiPS site lacks, and what is lacking elsewhere is a clear step by step, which I need in order to get 'er done. Here is what is on the YiPS site regarding the Perzl script:

1) Download (laptop):
unzip download-2.0.tar.zip (will create download-2.0.tar)

2) FTP
ftp myibmi

cd /QOpenSys
bin
put download-2.0.tar

2) Setup rpm and perzl *.deps (local copy)
call qp2term (or ssh uid@myibmi)

cd /QOpenSys
tar -xf download-2.0.tar
cd /QOpenSys/download
./setup2.sh

(a) setup installs rpm.rte
(b) setup rpm install wget
(c) setup untar perzl deplists (www.oss4aix.org/rpmdb/deplists/aix53,aix61)
Note: (c) can take significant time (setting up prezl depend tree ...)

call qp2term (or ssh uid@myibmi)

cd /QOpenSys/download
./wwwperzl.sh help

customer:

admin - admin help, PASE releases, perzl site copy functions, etc.
list [scan] - list possible downloads
count [scan] - count list possible downloads

wgetv [scan] - wget plus depends from perzl (view action only)
rpm1 [scan] - rpm install local (post wget)
rpm [scan] - rpm install plus depends (post wget)
rpmv [scan] - rpm install plus depends (view action only)
(*)[scan] - wild card rpm scan [gcc*]

The command syntax to use is then ID'd as:

wwwperzl.sh aix53|aix61 option [scan]

At this point the author (Tony in this case) ASSUMES several things:
1) You know what syntax combinations mean
2) You can decrypt the prompts/text on the right of some of the commands
3) Examples aren't needed because the instructions are self-explanatory...

Wrong on all counts. I might guess I could do something like:

wwwperzl.sh aix53 ...... but what the heck is 'option [scan]'? Then we list what appear to be examples but they aren't.

wwwperzl.sh aix61 wget [scan] gets me:

search [[scan]] unique version not found

then a boatload of .deps files. Nice. Very helpful.....

I know that *nix geeks love this stuff but in my humble opinion a few good examples when documenting or replying to a post can be helpful.

I have no idea why Perzl makes seemingly all of his RPMs depend on bash.
It wouldn't be a problem I suppose, but the wwwperzl.sh script is
braindead and will reinstall any dependencies even if they're already
installed. </rant>

Anyway, each dep file contains the full list of dependencies (its
immediate dependencies, their dependencies, and so on) so you just need to
download and install those and you should be good (well, other than fixing
up the iconv thing, which wwwperzl.sh takes care of for you).
