Give it a rest, Trevor. I simply stated the facts about our experience. IBM
showed no interest in helping us get the word out. Period.

For what it's worth, half of that initial group are now off the platform.

So you run down IBM because there is nothing to talk about, and no BP will
support a group of 6 people?

You are starting a USER group, not a BP group, or an IBM group. Get the
users together, and talk about what is happening in the industry! When
someone comes to Austin from IBM or the industry, get them to come and
speak to the group. Blaming IBM for your lack of user group makes little
to no sense. Waiting for IBM to spark your user group seems to defeat the
whole entire purpose of an actual user group.

I may be in Austin within the next couple of months. Get your group
together, pay for my lunch/dinner, and I will be there!

Yes. A half dozen or so folks would run out of experiences to discuss
pretty
quickly. Without IBM or a willing BP, how would we be able to locate and
market the user group to the other midrange shops in the vicinity?

Paul,

What is stopping you from starting a "user" group? Can't you just meet
regularly and not require IBM's presence or support? Isn't the idea of a
user group meant to be a bunch of users getting together and discussing
their experiences, etc? Or is there something I am missing?

Trevor

Our group was told that an IBM liaison would be assigned out of an office

back to me with an answer. That was 4 years ago.

Larry,

I apologize for missing this last week. The Austin to San Antonio
corridor
is without any user group at all. We tried to get one started up 4 years
ago, but getting any cooperation from IBM proved to be an exercise in
futility.

Larry -

I am not an officer, only a member, of the Metro Midrange Systems
Association (MMSA) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. MMSA is the only user
group in the North Texas area. The D/FW Midrange Professionals user
group
(of which I was once president) merged with the MMSA back in the 90's.

Here is the URL for the MMSA:
http://www.metromidrange.org/aboutMMSA.shtml

You can contact the MMSA president (Robert Arce) at (817) 360-5616 for
more
information.

Steve
