RE: iSeries revenue plummets

If you're machine is in the valid upgrade path you can still carry
forward your serial number. But if it's not a valid upgrade you
generally can't. Although IBM may allow it under special circumstances
so you could always try a special bid.

When we went 830 to 570 we migrated the s/n (same s/n from when it was
originally purchased as a 720 back in '99). When we went 730 to 570 we
couldn't but the 570 s/n was retained when we went from Power5 to
Power5+.
