It used to be different to some extent. Seniority in a company was revered, and no company wanted to be known as a "bad guy" that would fire a thirty-year employee at two years from retirement....denominator. Unfortunately, we can also mostly agree that a world populated by people and organizations whose only motive is to maximize their monetary profits might be a pretty dismal place to live, but that seems to get lost in the wash.
At least one area where this profit-only-motive principle does not hold is in the film-making industry. Consistently, time after time, the GP films gross whopping multiple times as much as the R-rated (and much more than those with the milder restrictions), but they keep investing multiple times as much in the lower-profit categories.
