IOW, everybody gets free speech, and any violation of that kind of right, including discriminatory application, is a theft.
Free speech obviously has cost us a lot. And losing it, as is happening now worldwide, costs more.
Any attempt to force me to charge money for telling you something (software is generally a "copyright" issue, or "license" issue), or sharing a set of algorithms, is an attempt to force me to join a cartel, so to speak, to prop up somebody else's idea of how I should make my money as a programmer or as a company.
I also don't believe in involuntary servitude, making you work without pay. And some day maybe I myself might charge a license, I'm not advocating one or the other, except to agree that maybe it's the best for some things, not for others.
It might help some to think of it as a "loss leader", a common marketing idea. As to fame and name and ego, marketers even have a name for the value this provides.
