Chuck, ALL internet connections are shared at some point. The DSL is shared further upstream than the cable (between the CO and the 'Net), but it is still shared. And cable is much faster. Download is about 4.5mps vs whatever your dsl is. Typically not over 1meg. I've never had a problem with "sharing" on my cable mode. I suppose if everybody in my neighborhood did a service pack download from Microsoft at the same time, it would bog down, but so would your DSL under the same circumstances. We had 1meg ADSL at Cornerstone for about a year. It went down on a weekly basis. We are now on a T1 at Cornerstone for just this reason (and bankruptcy of our provider). I've had cable at home for over 2 years now and it has gone down probably 3 times. And was back up in an hour each time. Even when they made the switch from AtHome to InsightBB (because of athome bankruptcy) we where only down for about 90 minutes...and that was preannounced and at 12:30 - 2am. So I would say if Cable is available, get it. No cable, then DSL, then ISDN, then Satellite. So you say cable has been BETTER than DSL ? I've always been under the impression that DSL was superior because you were not sharing the connection, etc (?). You did try DSL for awhile and switched I take it ? Thanks ! :-) Chuck _______________________________________________ This is the Non-Technical Discussion about the AS400 / iSeries (Midrange-NonTech) mailing list To post a message email: Midrange-NonTech@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-nontech or email: Midrange-NonTech-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-nontech.
