Brad, I'm surprised... Are we talking about the same thing? First off, the compiler writers sure seem to put a fair bit of thought into the performance (memory footprint and speed of both the compile and run-time), whereas I'm still looking for a code-generator that even gives lip service to the concepts. As far as output, I'm referring to the "old days" when the compiler produced an IRP. When I've compared that code to the code from Synon or JDE (also CASE-generated), I've found it a no contest.
